Giving children a love for and an appreciation of nature can only lead to a better world. To this end, the teachers at Margahovit public school are already participating in trainings based on the “Plant an Idea, Plant a Tree” manual. As part of the project, these teachers will also be providing additional education on the core topics of soil, water, forest protection, waste management, organic agriculture and food safety.
Additionally, a school eco-club will be established based on an action-plan developed with the help of ATP Environmental Education staff. The club will enable the most active and interested students to receive additional training and information and will include such practical tasks as tree-planting and maintenance, organization of waste recycling, presentations to community members, and organization of composting and gardening at the school itself. Environmental education programs will also be created for the adult population of Margahovit.
